A Church that serves together as family
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
1 Peter 4:10
God gives each of us gifts and abilities for the purpose of building up the Church. At Redemption, serving just means being a part of the family! Just as the whole family comes together to help get dinner on the table, we all come together to create a church of worship, service, and love. It would not be possible without the whole body of Christ offering their gifts to make it happen!

“There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul give us this helpful breakdown of spiritual gifts. Here we see that:
- The gifts are given to Christians by the Holy Spirit
- They enable us to serve alongside our Lord and do the work of God
- This work will be for the common good of the church and the world
As Christians, we can be assured that we do indeed have specific abilities given to us by the Spirit that uniquely equip us to do God’s work in a joyful and fulfilling way. This opens the door to a new way to view serving our church and our world. Service isn’t just a box to check on the list of things Christians ought to do. It’s an opportunity from God to exercise our gifts and it never fails to enrich our lives, draw us closer to the Lord, and transform the world around us.
